Win All New Electronics, All Energy Stars, for Your Dorm Room

Contest closes August 10, 2007

Energy Star LampWe’re looking for a Tulane University freshman living in the residence halls who cares about the environmental impacts of energy use and wants to try out an energy efficient lifestyle. Tell us why energy efficiency and energy use matters, and you could start your freshman year with everything you need to be a successful and energy smart college student.

One first-year student and his or her roommate will win a year’s use of these all-new electronics and appliances, all in energy efficient, ENERGY STAR labeled models:

  • Two Lenovo ThinkPad X61 Tablet computers
  • A MicroFridge mini-fridge with microwave
  • GE compact fluorescent lightbulbs and GE/JASCO desklamps and floorlamp
  • A Canon printer
  • A Mini Stereo
  • A cordless phone
  • Two clock radios/cd players

To enter, send us a letter telling us why you think young people should care about energy efficiency and the environmental impacts of energy use.  If you could do anything to reach your fellow students, how would you bring their attention to the importance of energy efficiency?

Also, make sure we have the following information:

  • Your room assignment for next year, and a phone number where you can be reached during the summer.
  • If you have a roommate, he or she must send us an email of support.  He or she must be willing to have his or her side of the room in publicity pictures and take care of the electronics that are provided.

Please submit your letter and room information by email to recycle@tulane.edu by August 10, 2007.  A winner will be notified by August 13.  If you have questions after reviewing our website, you can email us at recycle@tulane.edu or call at 504/865-5145.

The Fine Print/Contest rules

  • The winner and his or her roommate will win the use of these appliances, which are collectively known as the “Energy Star Showcase Dorm Room,” for one year.
  • Before you arrive, we will move all computers, electronics and appliances into the room HRL has assigned you, and we will move them out at the end of the year.
  • You must be a first-year Tulane student.
  • You and your roommate must be willing to have visitors to your room several times during the year.  (Always with lots of advance notice and at times convenient for you.)
  • You must be willing to be in pictures for publicity purposes.
  • You will be encouraged to share your experiences and ideas about energy efficient living (i.e. contributing to our website), but we know that freshmen year is busy and understand if you don’t have time.
  • This contest is organized by the Tulane Office of Environmental Affairs and Center for Bioenvironmental Research.
